In this post I will show how to install the Software Update Point.
Let's get started.
From the Administration Node, expand Site Configuration and select Sites. Click on Add Site System Roles.
Browse to the site system where the SUP role will be installed. Specify an account for installation if using an account different than the site server's computer account and click on Next.
Specify a proxy server if you have to go through one to get to the internet and click on Next.
Select Software update point and click on Next.
Select WSUS is configured to use ports 8530 and 8531 for client communications as these are the default for server 2012. Select whether or not to require SSL and select the client connection type. In my case no computers will connect from the internet. Click on Next.
Select to synchronize from Microsoft Update. Click on Next.
Enable the synchronization on a schedule. Choose to synchronize every other day. Enable Alert when synchronization fails on any site in the hierarchy.
Choose to immediately expire a superseded software update. Click on Next.
Choose what should be downloaded. Click on Next.
Select which products updates will be downloaded for and click on Next.
Select the required languages and click on Next.
Review the summary and click on Next.
Click on Close.
Now let's configure some Client Settings. Still from the Administration node, click on Client Settings and click on Properties.
Change the schedules to 1 day to get the updates out as fast as possible and change the 'When any software update deployment deadline is reached, install...' to Yes. Click on OK.
Now let's trigger the SUP synchronization for immediate start. From the Software Library node, expand Software Updates and select All Software Updates. Click on Synchronize Software Updates.
Click on Yes.
Check the status from the Software Update Point Synchronization Status in the Monitoring node.
You can also check the wsyncmgr.log which will give you an ETA.
That's it. In the next post I will show how to configure the SUP, create Update Groups, Deployment Packages, etc.
