Sequencing Lotus Notes 8.5.2 - Recipe

I'm going to sequence Lotus Notes 8.5.2 in a XP SP3 using App-V 4.6 SP1.

Start sequencer and make sure you get no warnings before starting.

Now select the installer.

Name the package and click Next. Make sure you change the destination to the virtual drive.

Customize it the way you want and click Next.

Now click Install.

After it's finished, tick I am finished installating and click Next.

Select Lotus Notes 8.5 and click Run Selected.

Click Next again.

Select Customize. Further configure the virtual application package.

Now remove both Collect Lotus Notes diagnostic.

Select Lotus Notes 8.5 and Run selected.

Select the OS to restrict the app to.

Select Continue to modify package without saving using the package editor and click Next.

Click Next again.

Go to the Virtual Services tab. Select Lotus Notes Diagnostics tab and untick the Allow service to interact with desktop box. Click OK.

Now do the same for the Multi-user Cleanup Service Properties.

Now go to the OSD tab. Expand IMPLEMENTATION > VIRTUALENV > POLICIES  and click on LOCAL_INTERACTION_ALLOWED and change the value in the Element Text to TRUE.

Save it and you are done!

  1. Hello Felipe
I made a package following your article and it worked fine. Few days ago my boss asked me can we move “Data” folder to the user profile (like “%appdata%\Lotus\Notes\Data”) so on shared PC’s (or Terminal Server) each user can configure notes in a different way and each user can have his/her ID file in it). Did you try to do it in this way? Would you capture Data folder during sequencing or not?
Thank you in advance for any answer.

  2. Hi Sasha,

You can and that's how we are set up here. Just change the path of the Data folder when sequencing. It will be one of the first steps after you run the installer.

    Cheers

    1. Hi Felipe

Sorry for a late response. I did it in that way and everything worked fine. Thank you.
We are using this package for about a month now and only problem we noticed is with ndl (document links) sent by mail. When APP-V is closed they are opening OK but when APP-V is running then we are getting error message that document can’t be opened. Do you have any idea why is this happening?

  3. Hi Sasha,

I remember I had this problem before. There was no fix at that time.

I have tested it today and it opened fine. The only difference is that we sequenced it with FP3.

    Cheers

  4. Hi Felipe,

I have followed the instruction to sequence Lotus Notes v8.5.2 with APP-V Sequencer 4.6 Sp2 but I am getting the error when I try to launch it.

When I launch the App-v package, it try's to launch the application and it loads 100% but then I get a popup message that says Application Error and give memory error.

    Please kindly advise.

In your instructions you mentioned (Virtual Services tab. Select Lotus Notes Diagnostics tab)

When I sequence the application I can not find Lotus Notes Diagnostics tab under Virtual Services tab.

    Please kindly advise.

    Thanks

  5. Hi Felipe,

Please see more details below after sequencing Lotus Notes v8.5.2.

    Information:
The list of installed applications on this system is different from those recorded during initial package creation. This could potentially
    1) Cause the virtual application to find resources that were previously unavailable or
    2) Cause the virtual application to be unable to find resources that were previously available.
Both of these scenarios may corrupt the package.

The newly added/missing applications are as follows:
    Lotus Notes 8.5.2 8.52.10222

    Resolution:

Verify that the new/missing applications are not related to the virtual package and that the virtual package is not dependent upon them.

    Launch Notes App-V Package.

    Thanks
    Wajid
