Computer is locked out!

Imagine this situation:

  • Your local Administrator account is disabled.
  • You don't have a local admin account.
  • The user is unable to log on to the computer.
The first thing you would think is that the user is locked out.
But that was not the case. No accounts are working to log in to the computer.

You can reimage the computer... or restart the computer in safe mode, log on as Administrator and rejoin the computer to the domain.

But the computer is in a remote location!! No problem. Ask the user to start the computer in safe mode and then use the Netdom command to rejoin the computer to the domain.

You can download it from here.

Netdom Remove computername /Domain:domain /UserD:user /PasswordD:password /UserO:user /PasswordD:password
Netdom Join computername /Domain:domain /UserD:user /PasswordD:password /UserO:user /PasswordD:password /REBoot:0

where UserD and PasswordD are the credentials to join or disjoin the domain and UserO and PasswordO are the credentials to make the connection with the machine.
